After a long last day hiking out of Parunuweap, we opted for a mellower day than I had planned. Unfortunately all the mellow options I could think of involved hiking trails (I had already been on) loaded with tourists and weekenders. Then Sara reminded me she had two inner-tubes in her car so we set off on a scavenger hunt of sorts to figure out where to put-in, take-out and find some air.
We started at the top of Springdale and floated down to the end of town, which took a leisurely couple hours with stops to check out rope swings and re-run some of the better rapids. Our low-slung inner-tubes necessitated careful maneuvering to avoid dragging our tailbones over shallow rocks, which inevitably happened. There were more riffles and small rapids than I expected, which were loads of fun for a lazy Saturday.

At the take-out we deflated the tubes and walked to the nearest shuttle stop. With the free shuttle running the full length of town, getting back to our car could not have been easier. The trip was refreshing and fun, and put us both in great moods. It's a great way to spend a rest day when the river is up and flowing and the risk of thunderstorms keeps you out of the canyons. We caught a beautiful sunset while camping at Coalpits Creek.
