Avalon Sept 23

Looking to give Dan and Pip something to do in southern California, Sara came up with the suggestion of going to Catalina Island. I had never been to Avalon and hadn't been to Catalina since I was a kid so was down for a trip. We arrived to find a beast of a cruise ship offshore and the town flooded with people. I didn't quite know what to expect. We started with a walk up to the Wrigley Gardens, which was interesting enough but also a little underwhelming for what I was expecting and for the price of admission.

We then had lunch at the Avalon waterfront and inflated our packrafts to escape. Through the harbor, we headed east along the coast to where we found a rocky beach to relax and snorkel. Snorkeling was pretty decent. The relaxing was excellent.

We then paddled back to Avalon with time for an ice cream, sunset drink on the water, and some tasty Mexican food. I think we all slept on the boat! Sara's mom kindly put us all up for the night which was very nice of her! It was a nice enough escape from southern California.
