Sara wanted to go for a walk up Strawberry Peak, one of the more prominent peaks in the region. I said ok as long as we got an early start. By some miracle we were both awake and ready to go before dawn. We biked from our house out to the single track. I slowly biked to the back of the single track (harder than I would have guessed) while Sara kept pace walking. From here we followed the fainter cow-like track roughly towards the peak. A bit of steep cross country was required to reach a road which provided us good travel to the streambed in front of the peak. Surprisingly there was spring-fed flowing water in the creek. More steep cross country navigating brought us to the base of the hill. Steep scrambling brought us to the top. Our reward was panoramic views of New Mexico desolation and a bizarre concrete sculpture/monument with crystals and a corded phone handset to call the aliens. Sara was in charge of food and apparently thought this would be a short hike. Benefiting from the far-reaching view at the top, we very slowly returned via the path of least resistance. It was something to do. Sara got her walk.
